As a passionate wine enthusiast, Florian took part in the grape harvest at the Alois Lageder winery in South Tyrol (Italy) in 2016, where his enthusiasm for viticulture and enology was finally ignited. After a 6-month internship at the same winery under operations manager and biodynamics expert Georg Meissner, he decided to make a radical career change and become a winemaker. This was followed by a Master's degree in viticulture and enology in Montpellier, Bordeaux and Lisbon, accompanied by practical experience in the Douro Valley in Portugal (Niepoort), Mendoza in Argentina and finally on the Moselle at the biodynamic winery Rita and Rudi Trossen. It was here that Florian spontaneously fell in love with the wines and terroir of the Moselle. He was also fascinated by the lively and precise natural wines that Rudi Trossen brought to the bottle.
When the opportunity arose to acquire an overgrown, absolutely top-quality steep slope with old Riesling vines in Kinheim, Florian and France did not hesitate for long and restored the vineyard, which was threatened by forced clearing. The foundation stone for Jus Naturae was laid. The winery now cultivates 1.3 hectares of vines, focussing on top steep slopes with old Riesling vines.
The name of the winery, Jus Naturae, comes from the Latin for "law of nature". It expresses the fact that we respect the laws and rhythms of nature as much as possible and adapt our working methods accordingly. We are in the process of organic certification. The first vintage with the organic seal will be in 2024.
The name is also a reference to the professional past of the founders, who are both lawyers and no longer follow man-made laws but the laws of the vineyards.
After all, the Latin name is also a homage to the Romans, who brought viticulture to the Moselle.
