The Jus Naturae winery was founded in 2020 by Florian Wecker. He had previously worked as a lawyer and founder but had not found the passion and purpose he was looking for.
As a passionate wine lover, Florian took part in the 2016 grape harvest at the Alois Lageder winery in South Tyrol (Italy), where his enthusiasm for viticulture and oenology was finally awakened. After a six-month internship at the same winery under the farm manager and biodynamics expert Georg Meissner, he decided to make a radical career change and become a winemaker. This was followed by a Master's degree in viticulture and oenology in Montpellier, Bordeaux and Lisbon, accompanied by practical experience in the Douro Valley in Portugal (Niepoort), in Mendoza in Argentina and finally on the Moselle at the biodynamic winery Rita and Rudi Trossen. It was here that Florian spontaneously fell in love with the wines and terroir of the Moselle. He was also fascinated by the lively and precise natural wines that Rudi Trossen brought to the bottle.
Florian did not hesitate for long when the opportunity arose to acquire an overgrown top vineyard with old Riesling vines in Kinheim. He restored the vineyard, which was threatened by forced clearing. The foundation stone for Jus Naturae was laid. Today, the winery cultivates 1.3 hectares of vineyards with a focus on top vineyards with old Riesling vines.
The name of the winery, Jus Naturae, comes from Latin and means ‘natural law’. It expresses the fact that we respect the laws and rhythms of nature as much as possible and adapt our working methods accordingly. We are currently in the process of organic certification, with the first vintage with the organic label scheduled for 2024.
The name also reflects the professional past of the founder, who was a lawyer and no longer adheres to man-made laws, but to the laws of the vineyards.
After all, the Latin name is also a tribute to the Romans, who brought viticulture to the Moselle.
